The connective tissue
is characterized by presenting several types of cells. It has the function of
forming the base of the skeleton, storing and transporting nutrients,
encircling all the blood and nervous vessels of the body and leading the
body's fight against infections. Connective tissue can be classified into
connective tissue proper (loose and dense), connective tissue of special
properties (adipose, elastic, mucosal, reticular or hematopoietic) and
connective tissue of support (bone and cartilage).
